9th president William Henry Harrison born in Berkeley, Virginia

February 9

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 9 of February, repeating indefinitely

On this day in 1773, 9th president William Henry Harrison was born in Berkeley, Virginia. He served the shortest term of any president – a mere month – before expiring from pneumonia. Though he didn’t make much impact as president, Harrison was well-known as a general in the War of 1812 and in battles with Native American tribes on the western frontier.

Did you know? Harrison sneakily married his wife, Anna. Because her father disapproved of the match, the young couple waited until he was away on business to elope. Though unimpressed with his new son-in-law, Anna’s father was instrumental in securing Harrison a political position.

Though Harrison’s presidency was short-lived, his grandson, Benjamin, would go on to serve as president from 1889-1893.
