The Institute of American Civics, located within the Howard H. Baker, Jr. School of Public Policy and Public Affairs at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in American Civics to begin when filled.
The Institute of American Civics was created to enhance education in politics, economics, philosophy, American history, and American government as well as increase understanding of the rights and responsibilities of American citizenship; fundamental democratic principles; and the ways in which those principles are expressed in and through our federal, state, and local institutions. In pursuit of this mission, the Institute invites applications from scholars at the rank of associate and full professor with teaching and research profiles in these subjects and related fields.
The Professor/Associate Professor and Associate Director will serve as the primary liaison, consultant, and content expert for major programs and signature events associated with academic and co-curricular civics education, assist with oversight and management of the institute, and support the development and implementation of internal and external opportunities that enhance the academic and co-curricular experience of graduate and undergraduate students while supporting the overall mission of the Institute of American Civics, the Howard Baker School and the University of Tennessee. They will be responsible for supervising professional staff, graduate assistants, postdoctoral fellows, and student staff as well as programmatic and curriculum development and scheduling, budget, and outreach. The Professor/Associate Professor and Associate Director also will be expected to teach classes and carry out a program of research and publication.
Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in political science, history, economics or a related discipline is required for this appointment.
