The Department of History at Benedictine College seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the history of the United States beginning August 1, 2023.

The area of research specialty is open. Only complete applications will be considered. The minimum requirement is a Ph.D. in History, which must be in hand by the date of hire.

Preference will be given to candidates with relevant experience teaching U.S. history at the post-secondary level.

Benedictine College has a full-time undergraduate enrollment of approximately 1900 students and is a mission-centered academic community. Its mission as a Catholic, Benedictine, liberal arts, and residential college is the education of men and women within a community of faith and scholarship. Benedictine College provides a liberal arts education through academic programs based on a core of studies in the arts and sciences. In addition, the college provides education for careers through both professional courses of study and major programs in the liberal arts and sciences. As an essential element of its mission, Benedictine College fosters scholarship, independent research and performance in its students and faculty as a means of participating in and contributing to the broader world of learning. Candidates should as part of the cover letter address how they would operate in this context.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include teaching four classes per semester, both surveys and more focused upper-division classes. Additional responsibilities include engagement in and service to the department, college, and community. The successful candidate will maintain a strong research agenda and broad teaching interests.
